Like doctors, surveyors often specialise in certain subjects, in our case, that would be industrial roofing.
Don’t ask us anything about domestic roofing though. It’s just not our market.
Because we specialise in industrial roofing issues, it means that we have honed our skills over many years, looking at very similar type roofs.
The defects we see on metal roofs are often the same, or at least, very similar.
Over time, our specialist roofing surveyors have grown used to seeing the defects and because of this, will often identify things that less specialised surveyors can miss.
It doesn’t mean that they are any less of a surveyor, it just means that they might not be familiar with certain metal roof defects.
For this reason, quite a large number of building surveying practices utilise our services to carry out their metal roof surveys on their behalf.
The image here shows a relatively common defect that is often mis-diagnosed as being environmental soiling.
Whilst that might be a sufficient description, it doesn’t tell the whole story.
Staining like this is indicative of a defect in the roof.
If the roof surveyor doesn’t know the cause of the staining, how can he or she suggest a suitable remedy?
Consider also, the report produced by the surveyor. Depending on the reason for the survey, a mis-diagnosis could end up being costly futher down the line.
